Heels and Hills........what's it all about?

Sandals, kitten heels, pumps, stilettos, wedges, platforms, mules, Mary-Janes, boots...........I am a lover and consumer of all things shoes. However I have had to make way in my collection for runners in my quest for endurance running......this is my story.

Taking a rest

Well gang, I am off program and taking a little rest from doing run training. I've told the coach that I am hanging up the running shoes for a spell.........................that's not to say that running has ceased......I will still do some running with my favourite triathlete.................................but I am working through some personal challenges at the moment and want to keep running as a joy.....................................am using my body in other ways (namely yoga) and totally loving the discovery.
So hopefully I will see you soon, out and about on some new running tracks :)

PS I do have to say that with less running I once again have feet that look fabulous in shoes!

Bitumen is boring #4

The final trail run of the 2012 Salomon Trail Running Series was held at Anglesea on 23rd September. The chance to combine a trail run and a night away was too good to resist................throw in some gorgeous (warmer) spring weather, tasty lentil burger from Bottle of Milk in Lorne (http://www.thebottleofmilk.com/menu.html) and it was a great weekend. Have waited weeks to post this in case there were decent snaps of me running, but alas there aren't.
Loved the trail running series, plenty happy about running up hills and down dales, through muddy puddles and leaping over logs.

Above average

I am not above average in many things...................in fact I am pretty average at most things..........however I am more than happy to accept being above average for the number of pairs of shoes that I own.................well into 3 digit numbers!

from the Herald Sun Monday 17th September 2012

SOLE devotion and the perennial appeal of a new pair of shoes is seeing women hoard heels, thongs, sandals and stilettos in their wardrobe.

A survey of more than 1000 women by retailer Target has revealed that Australian women own an average 25 pairs of shoes.
And they are also not bothered about trying before they buy - six in 10 women said they shopped for shoes online.
More than half those polled admitted to owning a pair of shoes they had never been worn.
Target's business manager for footwear, Don Murphy, said heels were the most popular shoe.
Women reported they owned at least six pairs, he said.
"As you might expect, we've discovered that 18-29 year-olds on average wear a 7cm sized heel."
Model Amelia Schubert, from Giant Management, has about 30 pairs of shoes.

"Shoes have the power to change your entire look. You can buy a new shoe and it can instantly change an old outfit," she said.

Knock knock

Who's there?
Me.
Me who?
Me who writes this blog.

Long time no write! That could be because the running hasn't been happening as planned..................anyway this morning's run along the Bay was windless and not wet...............yay! But it was about 15kms........................the usual aches and hurts (during and post!) that some yoga poses helped alleviate.

Couldn't have said it better myself

I AM A RUNNER because I run. Not because I run fast. Not because I run far. I AM A RUNNER because I say I am. And no one can tell me I'm not.

John Bingham, author and runner

That's pretty much is me..............................some would say I am not built for running and I am likely to agree but I can run and I can even run in heels if there is a need.

I often get caught up in pace, distance, run sets, form, stride, foot strike, blah, blah, yada yada and that can take me away from being present. I am doing my best to be 'yogic' about my running......by finding joy in my experiences.

So..................I am a runner because I run.

Tell me what you are :)

Bitumen is boring #3

The run (3rd in the Salomon Trail Running series) was up at Silvan in the Dandenong Ranges AND was advertised as the toughest (but most rewarding) runs of the series in length of the courses as well as a bit hillier.............................the start / finish area was at the foot of the mighty Silvan Reservoir dam wall in the highly manicured picnic area with stone terraces, vine covered pergolas and rhododendron gardens dating from the 1930s.

This run was also the test run of the new trail runners................

Verdict: it was a stunning trail run but we thought the previous trail run was more challenging.........or did the trail runners make that much of a difference that it all felt easier? Who knows.........the shoes were ACE to run in - I felt so much more steady on the uneven ground and I was more confident running through the mud and puddles and not so worried about slipping and sliding..................

The trail runners can take me from traversing the chandeliers of life.........................

to running muddy trails and still have fabulous looking shoes (albeit flat shoes)!

PS........................my muddy feet/legs looked just like a hairy pooch's paws..........................
